Empowering English Departments to Achieve Measurable Success

Strategic Guidance to Reverse Underperformance and Boost Outcomes.

Having worked for over 20 years in schools in England, Northern Ireland and internationally, I have experience of a range of contexts and have been exposed to a range of challenges faced by school teachers and leaders. There are times when results stagnate or unexpectedly dip. Departments can be hit by staffing crises, curriculum issues or challenging cohorts of students who do not make progress with standard intervention strategies. In the midst of the busyness of the job, it is hard to find the time, or clarity of thought, to know what to do to bring change and improve outcomes.

That’s where I can help!

I believe that, with the right support, improvement in outcomes is possible, that leaders benefit from an outside perspective to gain clarity and that departments succeed when they have a clear, purposeful direction of travel.

About Me

I believe education is the key that unlocks doors to opportunity—and that English, more than any other subject, is central to this. Strong literacy skills and achieving success in English opens doors for students to thrive in all areas of life. I am passionate about supporting English Departments to overcome challenges and create the conditions for every student to succeed. I am passionate about supporting students to achieve to the best of their potential to enhance their future life chances.

My Journey

I began teaching in 2002 with a deep conviction to make a difference for disadvantaged students. My first post was in a school formed from the amalgamation of two failing schools, where only 22% of students achieved 5 A*–C GCSEs including English and Maths. Through robust structures, laser-sharp organisation and innovative thinking, the school was transformed. I progressed from classroom teacher, to Teaching and Learning Lead and finally Head of English. By the time I left, GCSE English pass rates alone had more than doubled to over 50%.

Since then, I’ve extended my experience internationally. In West Africa, I established an English Department from scratch, developed curriculum and trained teachers. I currently work with an organisation building schools in Guinea-Bissau, with the aim to develop curriculum and teacher training. In India, I supported the growth of four schools. Back in the UK and Ireland, I completed my Masters in Education and have worked with a wide range of schools, building a portfolio of effective practices and strategies that improve outcomes in diverse contexts.

Our Services

Since 2020, I have expanded from teaching to curriculum and content writing and consultancy, formally transitioning to freelance consultancy in 2024.

Writing Services

The move to online learning allowed me to expand into international content writing, proofing and editing. I have several years of experience creating engaging content for Middle and High School students and developing resources for Primary and Secondary schools across multiple online platforms. Additionally, I produce reports on GCSE English outcomes and as part of our consultancy packages, collate qualitative and quantitative data drawn from schools into a report with actionable recommendations.
